I lost a pound?!?

Well, today I had a doctor's appointment and it turns out after all that drama with the scale yesterday that I actually lost a pound! After asking me how I've been feeling and if I have any questions, the doctor said "Well, I wanted to ask you about your weight. It went down since your last appointment, so I just wanted to make sure that you have been feeling okay". Isn't that crazy that after all that I lost a pound?!? She said that one pound is not a big deal, but at this point it may get hard to eat a whole lot because of the size of the baby, so she just wanted to double check that I was still feeling okay.

drama with the scale - ugh!

I have been trying really hard not to obsess about my weight during my pregnancy, so I have not really been weighing myself at all in between doctor's appts. Well, today I went swimming at the Acquatic Center and I decided to step on the scale since I have a dr appt tomorrow anyways. Imagine my shock when the scale said that I had gained 15 lbs in two weeks!!! I almost had a meltdown right there. I could not imagine how I could have possibly gained that much weight in such a short amount of time. So when I got home, I quickly dug out my bathroom scale and prayed that there was some sort of mistake. Well, my scale at home says that I am about 15 lbs less than the scale at the gym. If anything maybe I gained about a pound or two since my last dr appt. OMG how could a scale at a gym be SO off?!?! There are probably a lot of women who are going to be pretty unhappy when they step on that scale. So I was feeling very relieved, but then I started to second guess myself and think what if the scale at the Aquatic Center really was right? So I drove over to my mom's house just to use her scale. It matches up with my scale at home, so I feel pretty confident that it was just some fluke with the other scale. Ugh! What an ordeal! From now on I think that I will just stick to my plan of only being weighed at the dr. office!

32 weeks

Wow, at 32 weeks I am really feeling like my belly is huge! I feel like there isn't much more room in there for the baby to even get any bigger. It's hard to believe that I still have 8 more weeks until my due date!

last day of work

Today was my last day of work. I think that I'm in a state of shock. It's so strange to think that I won't be going back at work for so long since I'm taking the whole school year off next year. So it was a bittersweet day. Of course I'm really excited about the baby, but I really love my job, so it was hard to leave today knowing that it will be quite some time before I am back. It just feels weird. I started to get a little emotional this morning when I was first opening up my classroom door for the day. It just really hit me that it was my last morning at work and going into my classroom to start the day for a long time. And then it hit me again at the end of the day, during my 8th period class - last class of the last day, my last teaching day until I go back in Sept of 2009. Surprisingly though, I didn't cry. I did get a little teary-eyed, but didn't really cry. So, we'll see how I'm feeling next week when I'm not at work. I know that it will be so much easier for me not having to work, but I think I'm going to still be a little sad.

baby hiccups

Today I felt baby hiccups for the first time! :) The last time I had a sonogram, we could see the baby hiccuping, but I couldn't feel it. So the tech told me that if I started to feel small, rhythmic movements/taps then that was hiccups. Well, today I felt it for the first time - so cute to think of the little one hiccupping in there! :)

Happy Mother's Day!

Well today is my first "unofficial" Mother's Day. I guess I really am a mother since I've been taking care of this little one in my belly for the past 7 months or so. But I think it will really feel more like my first mother's day next year when the baby is actually here!
Today was a great day though. Joe gave me a card, a balloon, and some chocolate (yum!). We had both sets of parents, siblings, and grandparents over here for brunch. I gave my mom a book called the Granny Diaries that is all about being a grandma, and a little photo album that says "Grandma's Brag Book". Of course it made her cry, and then I cried - it was quite the scene!

My first mother's day card

I forgot to mention earlier that today my last period class gave me a mother's day card. It was so sweet. On of the girls in the class had a baby last year (she was my student last year too), and so she's been very interested in my whole pregnancy - asking me about things, trying to give me advice, etc. So she is the one that made the card and got the whole class to sign it - it was so cute. So of course I started to cry because it was my very first mother's day card! And then the students all clapped for me which made me cry even more - it was pretty ridiculous but the whole thing was very sweet. I have such nice kids, it's going to be hard to leave them.

Told my students today

Well, today I told my students that next Friday will be my last day. Of course the first response from most of them was "Can we have a party?" :) It was sweet, but I had to tell them no since there is so much to do with finishing up speaking exams, and make sure everything is in order before I leave. They all wanted to make quesadillas in class again which is just way too much work. So it's really starting to feel real now, only 5 work days left - crazy!!

scheduled last day of work

Well, it is now official. I'm not going to be working up until the end of the year. I talked with my department chair and my principal and let them know about the situation. They were both really nice and understanding which made things so much easier. So it looks like my last day will be May 23rd, and then I won't go back after Memorial Day. That will give me time to do all the speaking exams with my students so that a sub doesn't have to worry about doing them. The kids will have a sub for the last 3 weeks of school, but luckily there is a certified Spanish sub who is available to take over for me, so I don't have to worry about leaving them with someone who doesn't even know the language. I feel like I am making the right decision, every day it gets harder and harder to work all day long. By the time I come home I am so exhausted and uncomfortable that I pretty much just lay on the couch all day long. I think I will feel so much better once I don't have to work all day.
